Interview with James Kingdon

What inspired you to start learning to dance tango?
My partner took lessons and recommended coming to watch and meet the lovely people there. After watching some classes and being encouraged I began classes.

Did you have any previous training/lessons in tango or other dance styles?
I had some experience with jazz/musical theatre dance at Drama school and began Salsa around the same time as starting tango.

How long have you been coming to Leigh Tango and what do you like about it?
I have been having lessons since September. Samira and Luis are fabulous teachers and set a great example with their dancing. I love the music and the style.

How do you feel you have improved since taking lessons?
I feel I am making steady progress and am really enjoying the journey.

What has been your biggest challenge?
The basic walking has been challenging and I find the more I relax and enjoy the music the more things flow.

Has taking tango lessons improved any other areas in your life?
It is fantastic to be learning such a subtle and refined dance form and being able to dance with my partner and other lovely people, who are very supportive and encouraging.

What would you say to someone starting out or thinking of trying tango for the first time?
Go for it and you’ll love it!
