We are super excited to be writing Leigh Tango’s first ever blog!
What a fantastic month November has been, we have had a great time at our regular Thursday classes, we welcomed new members, developed technique and confidence and have had lots of fun in the process.
Our last Milonga of 2018 was a huge success, thank you to everyone who came along. If you missed it on social media, here is a video from the evening.
Our next Milonga is going to be a really special one, it will be our 5th Birthday next year and to celebrate we are holding a Gran Milonga. Make sure you put 26thJanuary in your diaries for an evening of festivities with us.
The Gran Milonga will take place at The Kursaal Function Rooms in Southend on Sea. The venue is just beautiful, once considered to be the very soul of Southend-on-Sea, The Kursaal has a wonderfully colourful history. Originally opened as the Kursaal Palace in 1901, it was designed by the architects George Sherrin and John Clarke as a Music Hall with an auditorium on two levels and a Ballroom in the centre of the complex. The entire building original had a capacity of 2,000 to 8,000 standing, and apart from the auditorium and Ballroom there were also dressing rooms for artistes and a band room for musicians included in the design. The stage of the Music Hall was built on two aspects, one being an apron stage and the other a thrust stage, and had a depth of 49 foot and a width of 87 foot with a proscenium opening of 31 foot. What an honour it will be to hold our event at a venue with such a rich history in dance and music.
The Kursaal music hall created a real buzz in Southend on Sea and was the place to be seen at the weekends. We have enjoyed hearing stories from local residents about their grandparents meeting at dances held there. We would love to hear if you have any more history on the venue.
