An update from Leigh Tango…

Can you believe it’s been a year since the first lockdown was announced?

It goes without saying that this past year has turned many of our lives upside down, and has prevented us from coming together to pursue our true passion for tango.

However, we’re looking forward to the future and cannot wait till we can all be together again to continue our beloved tango dancing. That brings us on to say that we have some exciting updates to share with you ahead of reopening our classes for mid-May.

Towards the end of April, we will be announcing further details regarding our evening classes, starting on Thursday 20th May (Covid restrictions and government guidance permitting of course). We will be introducing a pre-booking system ahead of classes re-opening to give you the flexibility of booking any classes you wish to, this will also enable us to monitor attendance and to ensure that we have a balance of followers and leaders.

It’s important to us to make your return back to classes as easy as possible, so moving forward you will also have the option to make a block booking to secure your spot over a specific period of time.  Further details to come next month.

We will announce any new measures in place to abide by government guidelines to help make Tango a safe, but enjoyable community to return back to.

Over these past 12 months of lockdown, we have been collaborating with The UK Argentine Tango Association (UKATA), which was created for UK based Tango teachers, organisers and other related professionals to provide an opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues related to furthering tango as an art form and it’s culture within the UK.

The UKATA has been officially formalised with a Constitution and Committee now in place, which has 70 UK members signed up already. We are pleased to be members too.

Over the past year, we’ve used this time and opportunity to have regular meetings with The UKATA to discuss and share key information, safety of venues and most importantly the safety for our students. It goes without saying that these meetings have been valuable to us, and even more so as we look to move forward with our classes again.

We are very excited to announce that the UKATA has opened up their membership to social dancers and we’d love you to join our next event to discover the association and to have your say. Here’s more details on that:

Event: UKATA – Introduction meeting for Social Dancers.

When: 24th April at 11am UTC.

About: This meeting has been specifically organised for all UK social dancers (tier 2 members).

The UKATA will be giving you an insight into the association behind the scenes, what our initiatives look like to give tango a united voice, what support we will provide to social dancers and generally what becoming a member (tier 2) will involve and bring to everyone in love with Argentine Tango.

This event is open to all social dancers, those interested in tango, to beginners or long term dancers. We’d welcome you to come along to ask any questions that you may have about the UKATA and the Tango community.

How to join: The event will take place over zoom. Click here to register or to get more details on the event.

That then just brings us on to say that we are so happy with the news of being able to return to classes again in May, and we can’t wait to see you all!

Until then, take care.
